John Gatherer - Chief Operating Officer
John has over 35 years' experience in the fields of HR, labour relations, training and development, leadership and strategic change management, having held senior positions in Anglo American plc and the De Beers Groups. During this period, John worked as Training Consultant to the Anglo plc Group and as General Manager of the Maccauvlei Training and Conference Centre. John served on the Executive Committee of De Beers as Group Manager Human Resources between 1999 and 2005, and headed up a Global Centre of Expertise in Leadership Development and Talent Management for the Group.
John joined Debbie Craig at Catalyst Consulting as Chief Operations Manager, and together they have forged a consulting business, specialising in strategic change, leadership development and talent management, working locally and internationally with a variety of clients from a range of business sectors. John brings a deep specialist knowledge and expertise to his roles as facilitator, consultant and executive coach as well his ability to think strategically and design innovative solutions. John has managed large scale people management projects and transformation journeys in Africa, Asia, South America, Europe, China, the UK and the USA.
John holds a BA Hons, from the University of Natal, a CPIR from WITS Business School and has attended programmes in Strategic Transformation at Insead, Ashbridge, Rotterdam and Kolblenz Business Schools. He is an affiliate member of IPM and a registered Practitioner with the SABPP.
John has published a book, “I am Talent”, on optimising potential and career aspirations, has written numerous articles and presented at conferences and does public talks. John's other passions include photography and travelling. In addition he has published the following photographic publications:

Debbie Craig - MD
Debbie Craig has over 18 years experience in the fields of strategy, leadership development, change management, talent management, high performance teams and organisational development.
She has worked and consulted at leading South African and Global organisations and government institutions including Buckman, eThekwini Municipality, Accenture, Engen, MAC Consulting, De Beers, Transnet, Tongaat Hulett and VWSA.
In 1999 Debbie started her own consulting business, Catalyst Consulting, which she now runs with her business partner John Gatherer.
Debbie is a skilled strategist, design architect, team builder, powerful facilitator, change agent and executive coach and has worked at executive level with individuals and teams throughout Southern Africa and internationally in the UK, Australia, South East Asia, South America, China, Canada, Europe and the USA.
Her interventions have ranged from individual coaching, to team coaching, to team development, to mobilisation conferences of 350 people. Some key projects include:
- Leadership development across 16 operations and 2500 leaders of De Beers Group globally.
- HR strategy, talent management strategy and change management approach for Transnet and alignment across 6 operating divisions
- Strategy, change journey, leadership development and talent management for Buckman Laboratories in Africa, Asia, South America, Europe, China, UK, Canada and USA
- Talent and competency management for eThekwini Municipality
- Talent management and leadership development for Engen

Debbie holds a B.Comm, an MBA and is a qualified NLP practitioner, process facilitator, game ranger, reflexologist and Reiki Master.
